What if I can’t see the chat box?

Cookies need to be enabled for the Online Library website, for the chat box to be visible. Please ensure that your browser allows cookies from the Online Library website.

What if my enquiry can’t be resolved immediately?

Our answer:

Enquiries may need to be referred to another librarian, or may require further research which needs to be undertaken offline. In these instances you will be informed that the live chat will be ended, and you will be contacted by email within 72 hours working hours.

When will the service be available?

Our answer:

The Ask a Librarian Live Chat service is available Monday-Friday between 9:30am to 12:30pm, and 1:30pm to 4:30pm London time.

You will know that the service is available when the tab in the bottom left corner says Chat with us! and is green.

How do you use live chat?

Our answer:

Before you enter your enquiry you will be required to enter your name, email address and student number so that we can verify your status as a registered student.

When the Ask a Librarian live chat service is available the chat box in the bottom left of all Online Library pages will invite you to “chat with us”. 

The chat box is available from every page of the Online Library website.

Who can use live chat?

This service is provided for currently registered students of the University of London’s distance learning programmes.
