Databases

Historical Texts - Historical Texts contains over 400,000 texts from the 15th to the 19th Centuries. The texts are in three historically significant collections: Early English Books Online (EEBO), Eighteenth Century Collections Online (ECCO) and 65,000 texts from the British Library 19th Century collection.

Oxford English Dictionary - "The definitive record of the English language". It is a guide to the meaning, history, and pronunciation of 600,000 words— past and present—from across the English-speaking world. As a historical dictionary, the OED is very different from dictionaries of current English, in which the focus is on present-day meanings. You’ll still find present-day meanings in the OED, but you’ll also find the history of individual words, and of the language—traced through 3 million quotations.

Oxford Reference - Oxford Reference contains short-entry, general reference in academic subject, language, and quotations dictionaries. It also has more in-depth articles on specialized subjects in a range of Encyclopedias and 'Companion to' books on a diverse set of subjects. The Online Library's subscription currently covers 292 books.
