Frequently Asked Questions

Question:

Which database should I use to find journal articles on a specific topic?

Our answer:

If you are looking for articles on a topic, you can search the Legal Journals Index on the Westlaw database. For more information about using the Legal Journals Index, see the FAQ on searching the Legal Journals Index.

The Legal Journals Index will also be useful if you only have an incomplete reference to a journal article and you require further details (for example, if you only know the author and title of an article but do not know the journal in which the article appears). It is also useful for finding journal articles which cite a specific case or legislation.

Have you tried searching Summon the journals search engine? Summon is a quick way of searching for journal articles across most of the Online Library databases at once. Search Summon by article author, title or by topic. You can link directly from your Summon results to the full text by logging in with your student portal password. Read the Summon for Law students guide for further information about searching Summon.
