Ask a Librarian Live Chat

The Online Library provides a live chat service, which you can use to get answers in real time. 

To start a chat, just hit the Chat button on any page on the Library website:

Librarians are normally available to chat between 09:30-16:30 Monday-Friday, UK time

When a librarian isn’t available, you will often be able to get an immediate answer by talking to our Chatbot instead.  

Here are a few tips on how to get the best from the Chatbot: 

  • The Chatbot will be able to understand your questions more easily if you ask one question at a time.
  • The Chatbot isn’t able to search the Library for you for specific items such as books or articles, but it can guide you on how to do this yourself. 

If the Chatbot has not answered your question – or if you would prefer not to speak to the Chatbot – you can leave a message for a librarian to get back to you

Librarians also regularly review chats with our Chatbot, and will get in touch with you if we think you might need some more help.
