You are probably familiar with the internet and you will want to make use of it for your studies. As a distance learning student we recognise that you may have limited time to spend on your studies. Therefore you will need to know how to make the most out of your internet searches in order to achieve the best resources in the shortest amount of time.
There are three stages in finding academic information on the Internet, and we can help you with each step along the way:
- Internet Search Tools - For an effective search, you first need to plan your search. Once you have clearly defined what you are looking for, you need to be skilled in using search engines and Internet directories. There are also subject specific tutorials to help you make the best use of the Internet for your studies.
- Evaluating Web Sites - There is a large amount of high quality information published on the Internet but even more rubbish - you need to be able to sort the good from the bad.
- Organising and Citing References - You need a way of recording and organising the results that you have found, so that when you come to cite them later you do not need to spend time trying to find where a particular citation came from.
